Irene Cara: Fame

The story was that a BBC News team shot this video of Irene Cara in New York for Top of the Pops at a time just before having a lavish music video for your song became a necessity. It's low-tech but fun. Though the scene of her asking for more ketchup on her hot dog as she sings 'too much is not enough' may be not quite what the song writer had in mind! The video was shown on Top of the Pops a couple of times. In this version they cut in some scenes from the Fame movie.

Irene Cara - Fame 1982

Good quality video recorded from Top Of The Pops 1982. Irene Cara (born March 18, 1959) is an American singer and actress. Cara won an Academy Award in 1984 in the category of Best Original Song for co-writing "Flashdance... What a Feeling." She is also known for her recording of the song "Fame", and she also starred in the 1980 film Fame. She married Hollywood stuntman Conrad Palmisano in 1986. They divorced in 1991. The 1980 hit movie Fame catapulted Irene Cara to stardom. Cara was originally cast as a dancer, and when production heard her voice they re-wrote the role of Coco Hernandez. As Coco Hernandez, she sang both the title song "Fame" and the film's second hit single "Out Here on My Own". These songs, the only hit songs from the movie, helped make the film's soundtrack a chart-topping, multi-platinum album. Further history was made when at the Academy Awards that year: It was the first time two songs from one film were nominated in the same category ("Fame" and "Out Here on My Own") and both were sung by Cara. Thus, Cara had the opportunity to be one of the few singers to perform more than one song at the Oscar ceremony. (Note: Robert Goulet, who sang all the Oscar-nominated songs in 1963, is among several singers who had done so in the past.) "Fame," written by Michael Gore and Dean Pitchford, won the award that year. The motion picture Fame earned Cara Grammy nominations in 1980 for Best New Female Artist and Best New Pop Artist, as well as a Golden Globe ...

Irene Cara - What A Feeling

Flashdance... What a Feeling" is a song from the 1983 film Flashdance, written by Giorgio Moroder, Keith Forsey, and Irene Cara, and performed by Cara. Despite the title, the word "Flashdance" is never used in the lyrics. The instrumental backing tracks of the song make extensive use of synthesizersIn addition to topping the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Cara's only #1 hit and earning a platinum record in 1983, "Flashdance... What a Feeling" won the Academy Award for Best Original Song and the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song in 1984. "Flashdance... What a Feeling" was originally recorded by Joe Esposito before Irene Cara was asked to re-record it, since it would be from a woman's perspective.[citation needed] The song appears on the original soundtrack album of Flashdance, and Irene Cara's second solo album, What a Feelin'. Cara won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Performance, Female, in 1984 for her performance of the song. The song was also nominated for Record of the Year. There are additional lyrics in the 12-inch single version of the song. The lines "If I only could take all the love that you give, and escape to a world crystal clear" precede the lines "Well I hear the music, close my eyes, feel the rhythm". There is also a second instrumental break with a guitar solo. The song was the number three single of the year in 1983 on the Billboard year-end chart. In 2008, the song was ranked at #26 on Billboard's All Time Top 100, which commemorated the 50th ...
